Hands up if you’ll be tuning in to Red Bull TV’s world-class coverage of Crankworx Rotorua.
From November 4 to 11, you’ll be able to follow the action live as the world’s largest mountain biking festival once again takes place in Rotorua at Skyline Rotorua Mountain Bike Park.
This year Rotorua is the third and final stop of the Crankworx World Tour and will see the best international mountain bikers crowned as world champions.
With the safety of the competitors and support crews, the Rotorua community, and all of New Zealand in mind, the organisers of Crankworx Rotorua have decided to go with online coverage only of the five-day competition.
Rotorua local and Crankworx Rotorua organiser Ariki Tibble said eliminating spectators this year was a tough call but “the right thing to do”. The last festival attracted nearly 50,000 people and included big bike brands selling their gear, food and beer tents, and live entertainment. It was an incredible atmosphere as spectators lined the race tracks to cheer on their favourite riders in various events.
Meanwhile, nearly 100 riders are here in New Zealand’s mountain biking mecca, no doubt getting some good practice in out at Whakarewarewa Forest or Skyline. That includes reigning Queen of Crankworx 2019, Vaea Verbeeck from Canada. She’d been staying fit and strong using a stationary bike and weights during her stay in MIQ, in prep for her events, and is likely now running those familiar lines across the face of Mt Ngongotahā.
