Come to Rotorua this summer for one of the biggest concerts ever!
If you haven't heard the news, one of the biggest concerts to ever come to Rotorua is scheduled for Saturday, 12 November. For the first time, SIX60 comes to town, kicking off their summer tour of stadium-only gigs.
To make the most of your SIX60 weekend with us, we’ve taken some inspiration from the band’s playlist and came up with six awesome activities that match a SIX60 song to help blend your concert weekend into an awesome weekend.
1. Skyline Rotorua Luge – SIX60 song: White Lines
Having just invested $6m in their property and activities, Skyline Rotorua has gone from an iconic Rotorua experience to an epic one! There are three new Luge tracks, four new corkscrew turns, and tunnels lit up with 430 colourful metres of LED lighting. Plus, Night Luging is back on Friday and Saturday nights until 8pm. So whoever told you that you can’t fly, hasn’t been Luging yet. This is fast fun for the whole family, with stunning views over Lake Rotorua and the city – perfect for amping up for the concert!
Locals’ Tip: While you’re at Skyline, try out Volcanic Hills Winery for locally produced wine – their rosé is amazing!
2. Rotorua Ziplines – SIX60 song: Don’t Forget Your Roots
This brand new experience is located at the stunning Okere Falls. Owned and operated by local legend Sam Sutton (the guy who didn’t forget his roots), Rotorua Ziplines merges adventure, culture and sustainability into a new and transformative experience. Get harnessed up, strapped in and hooked on, then glide effortlessly through the forest, criss-crossing the Kaituna awa along the way. You’ll get a bird’s eye view of the world’s highest commercially rafted waterfall, while appreciating the serenity and beauty of the river canyon. To top it all off you get to participate in re-foresting the Okere Falls valley.
Locals’ Tip: Bring walking shoes for a great post-zipline forest walk along the Kaituna awa.
3. Okere Falls Store – SIX60 song: Rivers
Continuing with the nature and sustainability themes, we highly recommend calling in at the locals’ favourite Okere Falls Store. No doubt after ziplining and walking, you’ll have an appetite brewing, and the home of New Zealand’s number-one toasted sandwich – and loads of other amazing food – will hit the spot! The menu offers an amazing array of treats both sweet and savoury and has long been a local favourite for its awesome location, amazing kai and chill atmosphere. The perfect place to recharge after zip-ling or whitewater rafting!
Locals’ Tip: If toasties aren’t your thing, try out the unreal Kimcheese Black Forest Bratwurst!
4. Eat Streat – SIX60 Song: Finest Wine
Big concerts need lots of fuel and one of the best places you can fuel up before the big gig is at the unmissable dining precinct, Eat Streat. With options ranging from the finest wine and craft beer through to family friendly Mexican and everything in between, Eat Streat is the perfect place to start your SIX60 adventure!
Locals’ Tip: Visit Lady Janes Ice Cream Parlour for all the best Kiwi flavours.
5. Velocity Valley – SIX60 Song: Rise Up 2.0
Want to get your blood pumping, then look no further than Velocity Valley. Rise up on the Bungy or Swoop or the blast around on New Zealand’s fastest jetboat experience. Looking for something new, try out the human powered Shweeb (careful you don’t blow your legs on this one) or try the revolutionary Freefall Xtreme. Tons of options for a good times with your SIX60 crew pre- or post-concert.
Locals’ Tip: The Swoop is an amazing group activity and if you are hitting up the jetboat, ask for Lela, she’s the most savage of all the drivers!
6. Get Cultural – SIX60 song: Pepeha
Rotorua is the home of cultural experiences in Aotearoa and what better place to connect with Māori culture. Discover the beauty and majesty of our Te Arawa experiences like Te Puia, home of the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute (NZMACI), which has kept alive the Māori art forms of craving and weaving.
For an evening experience, you can connect with Te Pā Tū (formerly Tamaki Māori Village) which infuses indigenous ingredients into their multi-course degustation experience (pictured above) with never before seen cultural performance and unparalleled interactions.
